G.V. Crop Protection was established in 1994 by Ardmona orchardist, Noel Plunkett.
At the time there were limited options available for growers in Goulburn Valley region to purchase horticultural spray chemicals and fertilizers and there was a need for more competition in the industry. Noel recognised this opportunity and was able to organise alternative supply options and provide a more competitive environment for local growers.
Noel had dealt with Graeme McNeill over the years in different business dealings, and recognised his business acumen and talents as ideal to manage an emerging business. Noel approached Graeme, who was very keen and enthusiastic to be a part of the new venture.
The business commenced at premises on the corner of Echuca Road and McLennan Street, Mooroopna and quickly grew, and within 12 months there was the need to employ someone to help with servicing customers. Bill Konig was the ideal person to fill the roll with years of experience in the agriculture industry.
The business continued to grow quickly and to gain access to a larger buying network, G.V. Crop Protection decided to become part of the CRT Buying Group. This gave the business access to a wider range of products and to better pricing which in turn could then be passed on to customers.
In April 2000 the business had outgrown the Mooroopna site and decided to make the leap over the river, moving into larger premises at 37-39 Mitchell Street, Shepparton. This increased the inventory stock capacity and allowed for the expansion of the product range held on site.
Early on G.V. Crop Protection was predominately a chemical and fertiliser supply business however as it grew, Graeme identified that growers were looking for more advice about what sprays and fertilisers to use and with more staff coming on board, the business expanded to offer agronomy advice and services to growers.This enabled G.V. Crop Protection to become a one stop shop for all horticultural products and services.
